Our Founding and "Beginnings" in a "nutshell": Who we are and
how we got here:
* In the mid-1970's: From Deer Lodge Montana and her school there, *Mother Regina Mary
Kust, OSB, *met up in Chicago with the late and renown Jesuit
scholar and writer, Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J. who headed the
Institute on Relgious Life in Chicago in the mid-70's. He
encouraged her to continue her work in Founding the Benedictine
Sisters and he led her to two more sisters who have been with
Mother now, 17 years, Srs. Patricia Ann and Sr. Jean Frances.
They are our Life-Professed Sisters who have remained with us. Sr.
Terese-Peter Tompkins, age 55, was Professed approximately 8 years
ago and is in a teaching mission in Hartford, Wisconsin, outside
of Racine now. From Chicago, Mother and three Sisters went to the
Gary, Indiana Diocese under Bishop Grupta, now deceased, but a
very holy man, indeed. From there the Sisters then began a school
in Michigan City before coming to Ann Arbor 17 years ago.
* *Mother met Mr. Tom Monighan 17 years ago through Fr. Hardon. Mr.
Monighan is the former CEO and the Founder of DOMINO'S PIZZA
CORPORATION. He has been Mother's good friend and
benefactor/supporter since their first meeting so many years ago.*
* * *He invited her and the Sisters to make their home 2.2 miles off
of the _*DOMINO'S FARMS/DOMINO'S PIZZA CORPORATION HEADQUARTERS *_
*campus where we remain today.
* *We have 4 Life-Professed Sisters; as we are Benedictine we do
not want our numbers in Community to get very high, as
Benedictines usually do not have more than 30 or 40 Life Professed
members, by tradition.*
* We have 7 new vocations arriving in the fall: from myself,
Priscilla, age 52 to Helen, age 76, to Carol Ann, age 67 to Robin,
age 53 and many others!* We believe in "quality of vocation", not
"quantity".
* We are Located:
* We have the best of "both worlds"...a bustling "university
town...up-scale and attractive with the silent, peaceful
contemplation of the country and wilderness:
* *We are located: 2.2. miles down Earhart Road in Ann Arbor, off of
Michigan state Route 23, at Exit 41. Approx. 5 hours from Chicago,
45 minutes outside of Detroit. Our convent in nestled amongst
silent, tall pines and lush forests and woods down a tree-lined
dirt road, far from the madd'ning crowd. Loons coo at night from
our nearby ponds and all varieties of flowering bush and bulb
grace our paths and gardens.*
* Come away with me, by Beloved! entreats our dear Lord, for all
those yearning souls desiring a more intimate and perfect UNION
WITH HIM!
