When a Catholic receives one these most Holy Sacraments, he makes an oath with God. This oath is God pouring Himself into us and us giving ourselves to God. A sacrament is when a member of the Catholic Church makes an outward sign but receives a spiritual blessing. There are 7 sacraments of the Catholic Church and they are marking points of where a Christian is in His life. For instance, Baptism, for all non-converts, is usually received at birth; confirmation in Junior High, anointing of the sick is usually at the end of life. The sacraments are marking points in your physical life that signify where you should be and how you should be growing in your spiritual walk.
The seven sacraments are:
Baptism (Sacrament of Initiation),
Reconciliation (Sacrament of Initiation),
Communion (Sacrament of Initiation),
Confirmation,
Marriage,
Holy Orders,
Anointing of the Sick.
